Women Beedi Workers' Health: Up in Smoke

Abstract

The case study documents occupational hazards and poor working conditions of Beedi workers leading to a range of health issues affecting other domains of their lives. It also shows how women continue to be a source of cheap labour in the informal sector and are made to bear the consequences of occupational hazards without any social security and health care benefits.
